TUESDAY COCKTAIL SESSIONS

TUESDAY COCKTAIL SESSIONS WAS A WEEKLY COCKTAIL NIGHT I HELD AT BAR PILAR FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AND A HALF. EACH WEEK I WOULD PUT TOGETHER A DIFFERENT MENU OF 5 DRINKS- EVENTUALLY THIS BECAME A COCKTAIL TASTING MENU- AND HANDWRITE THE MENU. 

IN 2OO7 WHEN I TOOK OVER THE GM POSITION AT BAR PILAR I WAS VERY MUCH INTO COCKTAILS BUT THEY WERENT REALLY A THING AT THAT POINT AND IT DEFINITELY DIDNT FIT INTO THE IDENTITY PILAR HAD CREATED WITH ITS REGULARS. HOWEVER THE GM POSITION ALSO CAME WITH TWO WEEKLY BAR SHIFTS. A FRIEND POINTED OUT THAT I COULD DO ANYTHING I WANTED ON THOSE NIGHTS AND I SHOULD MAKE ONE OF THEM A COCKTAIL NIGHT. WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE A REALLY REALLY GOOD IDEA.

 

AT A ANOTHER BAR JOB A FEW YEARS PRIOR I HAD A BAR SHIFT WHERE I WOULD OCCASIONALLY HAVE A DJ AND I WOULD DRAW A FLIER FOR IT. I REALLY ENJOYED DOING THAT AND I THOUGHT I WOULD CLASS IT UP IF I JOINED IT WITH THE STYLE OF THE HANDWRITTEN MENUS OF MY PRECEDING JOB TO PILAR, KOMI.

 

I DECIDED ON FIVE FOR REASONS I CANT REMEMBER BUT IT PROBABLY JUST SEEMED LIKE A REASONABLE NUMBER OF DIFFERENT DRINKS TO HAVE TO MAKE. FIVE TURNED OUT TO BE NOT REASONABLE AS THE SESSIONS WERE MORE-OR-LESS MINI-DISASTERS EVERY WEEK FOR THE ENTIRETY OF THEIR LIFESPAN. BUT ALL THAT BEING SAID, IT WAS A GREAT TIME. I HAD A LOT OF FUN COMING UP WITH FIVE DRINKS EVERY WEEK AND WHEN I DECIDED TO TURN IT INTO A TASTING MENU, IT WAS FUN WORKING OUT FIVE DRINKS THAT WOULD WORK TOGETHER AND HOW.
